To me, there is only one transfer equation, which is dC/dt = KLa (C* -C) - R which is subject to interpretation, depending on the number of degrees of freedom. See my attached writeup. It is when the saturation concentration C* is taken as a constant C*inf that the two concepts begin to diverge.
