[Clinical diagnosis, treatment and lessons learned of thyroglossal duct carcinoma: a report of 3 cases].
Abstract
To explore the clinical diagnosis and efficacy of surgical treatment of thyroglossal duct carcinoma(TDCa) and summarize the experiences and lessons. The clinical data of 3 patients with thyroglossal duct carcinoma confirmed by pathology after surgery were retrospectively analyzed. The origin, clinical diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of TDCa were discussed. Among the 3 patients, 2 were misdiagnosed as thyroglossal duct cysts preoperatively and underwent Sistrack procedure. Postoperative pathology confirmed papillary thyroglossal duct carcinoma. One patient was suspected of having TDCa with lymph node metastasis preoperatively, and the clinical diagnosis was confirmed by postoperative pathology. All 3 patients had no postoperative complications and did not receive additional treatment. During a follow-up period 15-84 months, no recurrence was observed. Preoperative diagnosis of thyroglossal duct carcinoma often lacks specificity and is easily misdiagnosed as thyroglossal duct cyst. Surgical treatment is the preferred therapeutic option, and the prognosis is favorable.
