[Spatial Characteristics and Influencing Factors of China's Carbon Emission Decoupling Effect: A Case Study of the Seven Major Urban Agglomerations in China].
Abstract
The decoupling relationship between carbon emissions and economic development affects the speed and quality of achieving carbon reduction targets. Utilizing the driving effect of urban agglomerations to achieve coordinated carbon reduction is currently an important strategy. Based on the Tapio decoupling model, this study calculated the decoupling effect of carbon emission and economic development in the seven major urban agglomerations in China as a whole and the cities within them. A quantitative transformation method for decoupling status was proposed, which was applied to ESDA and SNA methods to analyze the spatial agglomeration and correlation characteristics of the urban agglomerations as a whole and internally. The types and mechanisms of agglomeration between urban agglomerations and cities were analyzed. Finally, the LMDI method was used to analyze the decoupling efforts of carbon emissions and explore the impact of various factors. The results were as follows: ① Low-low cluster cities have always been mainly distributed in the HC urban agglomeration, and efforts should be made to improve their decoupling level and strengthen their connections with other cities. ② Compared to that within urban agglomerations, the decoupling of carbon emissions between different urban agglomerations was more closely linked. ③ The network hierarchy of BTH and CC urban agglomerations was consistently high, and the hierarchical structure between cities within them was relatively stubborn. ④ The spatial characteristics of carbon emission decoupling can more truly reveal the status and problematic nature of collaborative carbon emission reduction than that of carbon emission. Collaborative carbon reduction work still requires substantially more development.
