Bearing witness to chaotic times: America 2025
Abstract
In this article, we explore our sense of ourselves within the context of culture and society when we bear witness to the distressing lived experience of American chaos. We focus on the sense of chaos that is unleashed in us when bearing witness during the self-described Age of Trump with its many threatening emotional, cognitive and behavioural facets that destabilise our individual and collective sense of wellbeing (Allcorn and Stein, 2021). The article’s psychosocial perspective explores the underlying nature of the lived experience of bearing witness to historical events.
