Abstract

This commentary responds to the revised 2017 sex work legislation aligned with neo-abolitionist radical feminist views and the care–surveillance dichotomy in social work. The critique is used to expose the challenges educators face in prioritising competency-based curricula over critical perspectives. Emphasising critical debate in classrooms equips students with essential skills to interrogate legislation that pathologises sex workers and other marginalised populations in order to promote a more just and informed social work practice.
