Design and optimization of a self-starting all-fiber Mamyshev oscillator with tunable Lyot filtering
Abstract
The Mamyshev oscillator (MO) leverages self-similar evolution and spectral filtering to provide an effective platform for high-energy pulse generation. However, reliable self-starting operation remains a critical challenge in existing systems, primarily due to the spectral offset between the fixed spectral filters and the lasing wavelength. In this work, we present a simplified method to realize self-starting in all-fiber MO configurations by replacing a fixed Gaussian filter with a tunable Lyot filter. Systematic adjustment of the center wavelength and bandwidth of the Lyot filter enables optimization of the output performance. A maximum pulse energy of approximately 8.1 nJ is achieved at a spectral separation of 7 nm between the two filters and a Lyot filter bandwidth of 2.5 nm. This tunability also enables control over soliton dynamics, including suppression of soliton crawling. These results demonstrate the potential of tunable Lyot filters for improving all-fiber MO designs in high-energy ultrafast applications, while underscoring the need for further investigation into pulse instability mechanisms.
