Abstract

We present a theoretical and experimental study of photoluminescence (PL) enhancement and spectral reshaping from III-V quantum well structures coupled to a plasmonic metasurface. Utilizing a Lorentz Reciprocity-based finite-difference-time-domain model, we calculate the emission spectra, and study the impact of design parameters such as metasurface periodicity and nanoantenna diameter. Notably, we show that the wavelength at which maximal PL enhancement is obtained does not necessarily coincide with the metasurface resonance. We report a ∼20-fold enhancement (without optimization) and significant beam collimation in some cases, showing good agreement between experiment and simulations. This framework provides a practical tool for designing spectrally tunable emitters.
