Abstract

Gas-filled hollow-core fibres have emerged as an exceptionally powerful and versatile platform for ultrabroadband supercontinuum generation, offering bandwidths and spectral reach far beyond what is achievable in solid-core fibre systems. The unique combination of long interaction lengths, high damage thresholds, and tailorable dispersion with the wide transparency region of gas media allows nonlinear mechanisms such as self-phase modulation, soliton self-compression, modulational instability, and Raman-driven dynamics to operate over an unprecedented spectral range from the vacuum ultraviolet to the mid-infrared. In this review, I survey both the fundamental physical processes underlying supercontinuum generation in gas-filled hollow-core fibres and how the fibre geometry influences the extent and shape of the resulting spectrum.
