Solid-state night vision goggle operating in the short wave infrared spectral band
Abstract
This paper describes a solid-state, short-wave infrared (SWIR), night vision goggle. The SWIR goggle photo detector array can be fabricated in a silicon foundry. In theory, the SWIR imager provides better night-viewing performance in overcast starlight than current 3rd generation image intensifiers. Also, the SWIR goggle is lighter and provides a practical path for needed improvements like expanded field of view, incorporating symbology and maps, and remoting goggle video.
