Virtual cells : uncovering the hidden language of genes
Abstract
Sam Khalilitousi was a semi-finalist in the 2025 UBC Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition. Sam presented their research, “Virtual cells: Uncovering the hidden language of genes.” Sam’s research discusses the limitations of modern medicine's trial-and-error approach to treatment, which arises due to genetic diversity. They focus on the idea of creating digital replicas of a person's cells using AI and genetic data to predict how their body will react to different medications. Sam Khalilitousi is completing their MASc in Biomedical Engineering in the Department of Biomedical Engineering under the supervision of Dr. Nozomu Yachie.
