Enhancing cellulose nanofibril compatibility with epoxy resins through a water-based surface hydrophobization strategy
Abstract
Kevin Oesef was a semi-finalist in the 2025 UBC Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition. Kevin presented their research, “Enhancing Cellulose Nanofibril Compatibility with Epoxy Resins through a Water-Based Surface Hydrophobization Strategy.” Kevin’s research explores how electric vehicles rely on battery power, reducing the need for liquid fuel. Additionally, he investigates nature-based solutions, specifically the use of cellulose nanofibrils, to enhance sustainability in energy storage. Kevin Oesef is completing their PhD in Material Engineering in the Department of Materials Engineering under the supervision of Yasmine Abdin and Emily D. Cranston.
