Abstract

This text aims to report on an experience in the outreach program “Trupe Só Risos”, which visits nursing homes to promote the well-being of the elderly. The central hypothesis is that student participation in this project contributes to their academic and personal development, while also positively impacting the elderly population served. The methodology used is descriptive, based on the activities conducted by volunteers during visits to the Frederico Ozanam Community Home in Ouro Branco, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Based on analysis, the results indicate that the program's activities improve the quality of life of the elderly, providing moments of joy, interaction, and care, in addition to development of students' social and emotional skills, such as empathy and assertive communication. The study concludes that university outreach programs, particularly in technical fields such as engineering, are crucial for the comprehensive education of students, offering an educational experience that goes beyond traditional classroom learning, fostering a meaningful connection between universities and their surrounding communities.
