Abstract

This study aimed to report the experiences of nursing students in developing an outreach activity focused on health education for fourth-grade children enrolled at the Tereza Rodrigues dos Santos Early Childhood Education Center (Brazilian CEI) in the municipality of Sobral, state of Ceará, Brazil. This is a descriptive, qualitative study, in the form of an experience report, conducted in March 2024. Its theoretical and methodological basis is the Theory of Praxis Intervention in Collective Health Nursing. The theme addressed was the importance of maintaining personal hygiene and hand washing for the prevention of diseases and other health problems, using puppet theater to better engage the audience. The action aimed to develop skills for practicing healthy habits from childhood, using individual and supervised hand washing as a reinforcement strategy, in addition to awarding symbolic certificates to the children. The experience highlighted the effectiveness of educational approaches that combine theoretical learning with practical and playful activities for health education with children, fostering a culture of disease prevention.
