Nanotechnology, Risks and Ethics
Abstract
The questionnaire-based research was primarily focused on public perceptions of nanotechnology. It included aspects such as perceived risks, milestones, knowledge, attitudes toward nanobots, science-fiction hobbyism, utilitarian reasoning, and sensitivity to disgust. The data files available here contain raw responses, respondent-level validity screening results, processed CSV files in long format for individual questionnaire blocks, item reference tables, and a fully reproducible preprocessing pipeline in R. The research formed part of a project aimed at developing an ethical decision-support system for emergency situations in nanotechnology research and development. As part of the project, respondents also provided solutions to model ethical dilemmas related to the field.
