DEVELOPMENT OF AN ELECTIC CIRCUIT AND SCENARIO FOR OPERATORS TO TEST ALGORITHMS FOR OPERATIONAL AND DISPATCH CONTROL OF THE POWER SYSTEM
Abstract
This paper discusses the principles for designing a testing circuit and a testing scenario for a system operator's actions that are sufficient to verify operational control algorithms with varying degrees of automation. To conduct initial tests of the algorithm, the testing scheme must provide a non-trivial scenario with minimal topology complexity that allows for various operator actions to eliminate violations of the power system's normal operation. To meet these requirements, the design of the circuit should start with the assumption of a fault and the operator's response. For example, a test circuit with 35 nodes was created, including 500, 220, and 110 kV power grids. The number of nodes was reduced by converting some connections with intermediate power take-offs in the 110 kV grid to a single equivalent connection. Additionally, some 500 kV boundary nodes were represented as equivalent injections in the form of PV nodes in order to ensure power flow in the 500 kV power grid. In the event of a sudden shutdown of a 500 kV power line to relieve overload on a 220 kV line, the operator has four options to divide the grid into separate power zones. The study shows that these options differ significantly in terms of maximum permissible power flow in controlled sections. The best way to split the grid depends a lot on current operating conditions. This means we need to develop algorithms that provide the operator with structured information to help them make quick decisions.
