On the Conceptual Restriction of Aesthetic Judgments
Abstract
My paper is divided into five sections. The first provides a review of various positions in the secondary literature concerning the issue of conceptual restriction in aesthetic judgments. The second offers a brief overview of the critical justification for pure aesthetic judgments. The third presents my interpretation of Kant's aesthetic judgments, focusing on the distinction between the direct and indirect content of representations and, consequently, the classification of the types of representations involved. The fourth section addresses what I term the misinterpretation of conceptual restriction in aesthetic judgments. The fifth part, I advance systematic arguments to clarify and correct this misunderstanding. [1]
