Abstract

Construction of high-rise buildings with irregular plan shapes is widespread in the current construction trend. This is because of the availability of land since urban municipal authorities acquire the regular shape for future development. For dynamic loads such as wind and seismic loads, high-rise buildings are more vulnerable than low-rise buildings. The pressure and suction intensity inside and outside a high-rise structure are mainly caused by the wind flow pattern and generate strong and significant eddies of wind surrounding the building envelope. This research uses the Ansys CFD tool to investigate the response of wind load on institutional buildings with zero-degree wind incidence angles on the windward and leeward sides. To perform this study, we used the shear stress transport equation by transient approach. The findings of the study are presented in various pictorial presentations for the pressure contour on 14 different faces of the building, with a streamlined plan and elevation for better visualization of the eddies generated. Moreover, the present research also investigates various phenomena such as suction at the building’s leeward side and pressure at its windward side. The recirculation zone was also influenced by the shape of the building since eddies are generated by the behavior of the wind structure interaction.
