201To evaluate the aneurysm-induced hemodynamics: insights from Newtonian and non-Newtonian blood flow models
Abstract
The cerebral aneurysm (CA) profoundly influences blood flow hemodynamics, thereby influencing clinical diagnosis and treatment approaches and preventing rupture risk. This study evaluates the hemodynamic characteristics induced by aneurysms by using both Newtonian and Carreau parameterized blood viscosity models. Analyzing the blood flow in a three-dimensional CT-scan-based aneurysmal artery under steady-state conditions, with Reynolds numbers ( Re ) ranging from 200 to 300, we examine homodynamic behavior of blood near the aneurysm region. To understand the complex anatomical structure of arterial aneurysms, which can alter the shear rates and cause the rupture, accurate modeling of blood flow is essential. The simulation results indicate that the Carreau model provides a more precise representation of flow instability, recirculation zones, and wall shear stress, which are critical biomarkers for assessing rupture risk. By enhancing our understanding of the hemodynamic forces acting on aneurysm walls this research offers valuable insights for potential clinical applications and interventions.
