85Rayḥān and his Uncle: Dependency and Kinship in a Lease Contract on Papyrus
Abstract
This article offers an edition, translation and study of an unpublished papyrus (P.Hamb. inv. 135 verso) that contains the lower part of a lease contract composed in 251 AH/865 CE. The article analyses the interplay of kinship and strong asymmetrical relationships, in both social and legal contexts, as witnessed by this document.
