High-pressure synthesis of alkali metal polyoxides
Abstract
The aim of this project is the synthesis and investigation of novel polyoxides of alkali metals under high pressure. In particular, we aim to synthesize Li, Na and K compounds featuring polyoxide anions including unconventional compounds with non-integer formal charges on the polyoxygen anions. Our proposal is based on recent theoretical predictions, the discovery of pressure-stabilized ozonides in the Ca-O system, and our own preliminary studies of the Na-O system.
