Abstract

The increasing pressure faced by forest ecosystems due to the expansion of human activities, such as agriculture, has caused their deterioration and decline, generating repercussions not only in the ecosystems themselves, but also in urban and rural communities. These processes justify the present work, which aims to describe the deforestation process in Villa Guerrero, Estado de México, through the estimation of land use change. Landsat 5 and 8 satellite images corresponding to the years 1994 and 2023 were used. During this 29-year period, a loss of 4553.39 ha of forest area was recorded. It is argued that floricultural activity is the main factor responsible for deforestation in natural areas.
