Abstract

Sitotroga cerealella is the main pest of corn in storage causing damage during the larval stage. Its control is based on the application of chemical molecules; however, this creates resistant populations. Given this, an alternative is the implementation of mineral broths. The objective was to evaluate the biological effectiveness of mineral broths for the control of S. cerealella. Five mineral broths were evaluated in combination with six corn genotypes; 50 g of seed was treated with mineral broths, five pairs of S. cerealella were added, and mortality, consumption, emerged adults, and sex ratio were recorded. The study was carried out under a completely randomized experimental design with a three-factor arrangement. Results show that the sulfocalcium broth controlled 90% at a dose of 1 ml L-1, while the principal components analysis shows a negative correlation between mortality and the rest of the variables.
