Abstract

We studied the northwestern region of the Cuban archipelago, which forms part of the southeastern sector of the Gulf of Mexico. The oceanographic expedition was conducted aboard the R/V Weatherbird II from 9 to 25 May 2017. Seven sites were sampled along a west-east transect, from the Gulf of Guanahacabibes to Havana Bay, on the insular slope at depths ranging from 1000 to 1600 m. We included all identifiable mollusk shells in the dataset. A total of 141 species were recorded, comprising 68 benthic species from deep waters, 43 benthic species from shallow waters, and 30 pelagic species. This represents a total assemblage dataset (including both living and dead individuals). Because living specimens were rare, the dataset was considered to represent mollusk death assemblages.
