Collection of the Class Mammalia (Order Carnivora) of the Zoology Museum of the University of Concepción UCCC_MZUC_MAM
Abstract
This dataset contains 107 occurrence records of specimens of the order Carnivora, which are part of the Mammalia Collection of the Zoology Museum of the University of Concepcion. The specimens were collected in Chile and, to a lesser extent, in Germany, Uruguay, Argentina, Mexico, Spain, Antarctica and the United States, between 1900 and 1996. They are dry-preserved in the form of skins, skeletons, skulls, bones, mandibles, and teeth. Each specimen has a unique associated catalog number (MZUC-UCCC) and a defined storage location within the museum. The Mammalia Collection of the Zoology Museum of the University of Concepcion currently does not include type material. Specimen data were initially recorded in an internal database of the museum and subsequently standardized following the Darwin Core (DwC) format. During this process, data consistency was reviewed and, when necessary, taxonomic information was updated by consulting The Mammal Diversity Database. Geographic information was also validated to ensure that each specimen is associated with verifiable latitude and longitude coordinates. Finally, the dataset was validated using the GBIF data validator prior to publication.
