Hidden treasures revealed: Catalogue of the Lumbricidae species in the collection of the Natural History Museum Vienna (Annelida: Oligochaeta)
Abstract
This dataset contains the digitized treatments in Plazi based on the original journal article Szederjesi, Tímea (2025): Hidden treasures revealed: Catalogue of the Lumbricidae species in the collection of the Natural History Museum Vienna (Annelida: Oligochaeta). Zootaxa 5717 (1): 43-65, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.5717.1.3, URL: https://doi.org/10.11646/zootaxa.5717.1.3AbstractThe revision of the Lumbricidae earthworm collection of the Natural History Museum Vienna revealed that the collection contains 70 currently valid species and subspecies belonging to 14 genera, and houses the type specimens of altogether 20 earthworm species, namely: Allolobophora molleri, Aporrectodea handlirschi, Cernosvitovia mehadiensis, C. opisthocystis, C. pannonica, C. rebeli, C. robusta, C. sturanyi sturanyi, Dendrobaena annectens, D. auriculata, D. cinerea, D. depressa, D. ganglbaueri, D. herculis, D. illyrica, D. meledaensis, D. succinta, Healyella syriaca, Octodrilus bretscheri and Oc. exacystis. This catalogue provides the first and comprehensive insight to the revised and updated lumbricid earthworm collection of the NHM Vienna. This knowledge may contribute clarifying future taxonomic and nomenclatural issues.
