Abstract

Oryzomys couesi (Alston, 1877) has a restricted geographic distribution in South America. Until now, it was only known from Montería, Córdoba, in the Caribbean region of Colombia. Here, we add three geographic records; a recent individual was recorded in Urabá, Antioquia, and during the identification process, we found six specimens from two localities around Isla de Salamanca National Park, Magdalena, whose identity have remained unpublished so far. These specimens represent additional geographic records of O. couesi in Colombia and South America. A cytochrome b sequence from the Urabá specimen increases the taxonomic and biogeographic relevance of these records.
