Abstract

This paper analyses the archaeological and textual sources related to the ancient Hispanic rite of lucernarium. Previous research has approached to this subject from philological and liturgical perspectives. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to focus, in an interdisciplinary way, on the ritual structure and chronography of celebratory schemes and its liturgical topography. The documental analysis is complemented with an archaeological approach to some scenarios where would have developed the luceranrium rite. The methodologies that have been employed are those of History of Liturgy and Christian Archaeology, but implementing new items to facilitate a multidisciplinary dialogue. The obtained results indicate that the historical evolution of the rite didn’t exclude the continuity of some oldest archetypal elements. In addition, have been documented a direct correlation between certain ritual trends, the liturgical topography of worship places and their symbolism.
