Atherosclerosis: Evidences that Demands a Verdict
Abstract
Atherosclerosis is studied as a new paradigm based on the integration of the laws of nature, including research that, when analyzed together, displaces the current evidence of this disease, which supports cholesterol and triglycerides as the main elements causing the formation of atheromatous plaque. It is shown that the main protagonist in this injury corresponds to hydroxyapatite, a calcium phosphate compound that in its crystalline form damages soft tissues acting as “ectopic and pathological calcification” and that in bones and teeth behaves as “physiological calcification.” Given its status as a systemic disorder that causes other chronic non-communicable diseases through ischemic atrophy, atherosclerosis is one of the fundamental causes of human aging. Its bidirectional relationship with hypertension reduces arterial elasticity and increases blood viscosity, both of determining factors in the increase of systemic blood pressure.
