A STUDY ON ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION DISCLOSURE OF GREEN MANUFACTURING IN CHINA’S GREEN PLANTS
Abstract
Environmental information disclosure (EID) is an effective way for companies to perform environmental responsibility, an important channel to improve the modern environmental governance, and an important basis for the Chinese government to promote green transformation, build sustainable development, and achieve carbon neutrality.Taking the cultivation of green plants in "green manufacturing (GM) demonstration construction project" as an example, this study investigates the impact and mechanism of voluntary environmental regulations on company EID.The results showed that GM significantly enhanced the quality of EID.The mechanism analysis found that GM plays a role mainly through the reduction of pollutant emissions by green companies and the backforcing effect generated by the continuous attention of investors to the field research of companies.Further analysis shows that higher public environmental concerns and stricter local government environmental regulations can increase the impact of GM.The analysis of economic consequences showed that the quality increase of EID in green plant cultivation promoted the improvement of research and development (R&D), green innovation, and environment, society, and governance (ESG) performance of enterprises, led to the transformation of green products of supply chain companies, and also drove the improvement of environmental quality at the regional level.
