SYNERGY BETWEEN ECOLOGICAL ENVIRONMENT AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT QUALITY BASED ON SPATIAL AUTOCORRELATION MODEL – TAKING CHINA AS AN EXAMPLE
Abstract
The ecological environment and the quality of economic development are the core pillars of regional sustainable development, with their synergistic relationship holding substantial importance for national macroeconomic regulation and the formulation of regional development strategies. This study aims to investigate the interactive characteristics and spatial synergy distribution patterns between the ecological environment and economic development quality. This study investigates the synergy between ecological environment and economic development quality in China, using a spatial autocorrelation model. The research spans the period from 2001 to 2021 and divides China into three regions: Eastern, Central, and Western.Data from national and regional statistical yearbooks and remote sensing datasets are used for analysis. The study constructs an integrated index system, incorporating ecosystem quality and economic development indicators, to evaluate regional development coordination. Results show that Eastern China generally exhibits a high degree of coordination, with Beijing and Shanghai having intermediate coordination levels. In contrast, Central and Western regions are primarily in a barely coordinated stage. The Moran's index indicates a significant positive spatial correlation between ecological and economic systems, highlighting regional agglomeration effects. The findings provide a basis for differentiated ecological governance and green economic strategies tailored to specific regions.
