Abstract

Relevance. A serious issue of modern times is the gradual decline in the level of physical and functional preparedness among young students. Therefore, an actual task is to identify the main factors hindering the implementation of the discipline's objectives in educational institutions of the country (particularly in higher education institutions). Research aim: to study the actual problems in the implementation of the discipline "Physical Culture and Sport" in modern conditions and to identify factors that obstruct the realization of its core objectives. Research results and discussion. Factors hindering the implementation of the main objectives of the discipline "Physical Culture and Sport" include: the decline in the overall preparedness level of freshmen students; the reduction of hours allocated to physical education or their substitution with "independent work"; digitalization of many spheres of life, which leads to a decrease in overall physical activity (not only among students but also among the adult population); an increase in the total volume of academic and extracurricular workload; low motivation for physical activity among students themselves. Conclusions. The implementation of "Physical Culture and Sport" faces systemic problems requiring comprehensive solutions: it is necessary to reconsider the structure of curricula and academic plans to ensure a sufficient level of physical activity among young students; it is categorically unacceptable to reduce practical hours in physical education and replace them with independent exercises. Conditions for independent improvement should be based on the realities of regular full-time education, active integration of digital technologies, and the search for ways to incorporate physical activity into the modern, technologically saturated environment. This aims to increase the motivation of young students to engage in physical activity.
