Abstract

The presented article investigates a relevant research topic of waveguide-based polarization converting devices. They have found wide application in novel wireless communication equipment, television broadcasting, satellite navigation, automotive and other wireless location systems, movable communication systems, and radio waves-based information networks. The use of independent electromagnetic waves with circular hodographs of electric fields results in a doubling of the transmitted information volume within the propagation channel. The purpose and objectives of the research are the creation of novel modifications to the polarization converter’s iris, which makes it more compact and excludes the requirement to place an additional E-field twist section between the converter and polarization duplexer. An improvement in converter characteristics was made in the frequency band of 20 GHz. The object of the research is to investigate electromagnetic wave propagation with linear and circular E-field hodographs in a square waveguide section with irises. The subject of study is the dependence of polarization state parameters and the matching of the device versus the frequency variation. An applied research method was modeled in the CST Microwave Studio software using the finite elements approach. Novelty of the obtained results is the uniqueness of the developed configuration, which consists of the non-standard placement of transversal irises in the converter based on a square waveguide section, namely in opposite corners. Practical contribution of the obtained results consists of the refusal of standard waveguide twists of E-filed, which was previously installed in designs between the converter and polarization duplexer.
