Abstract

This study investigated the effects of comprehensive high-quality nursing care on pulmonary function and neurological function in patients with stroke combined with lung infection.A total of 102 patients were randomly divided into two groups: a control group receiving conventional primary nursing and an intervention group receiving comprehensive high-quality care.Primary outcomes included pulmonary function indices [forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV₁), FEV₁/forced vital capacity (FEV₁/FVC), peak expiratory flow (PEF), and maximal voluntary ventilation (MVV)] and neurological function indices [National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA)].Secondary outcomes included the time to resolution of lung infection symptoms, arterial blood gas parameters (PaO₂ and PaCO₂), quality of life [Functional Independence Measure (FIM) and Modified Barthel Index (MBI)], and nursing satisfaction. Before intervention, no significant differences were found between groups in pulmonary or neurological indices (P > 0.05).After nursing, FEV₁, FEV₁/FVC, PEF, MVV, and FMA scores increased, while NIHSS scores decreased in both groups.Improvements were significantly greater in the intervention group (P < 0.05).The disappearance of fever, cough, sputum, and rales occurred earlier in the intervention group (P < 0.05).Post-treatment, PaO₂, FIM, and MBI increased and PaCO₂ decreased, with superior results in the intervention group (P < 0.05).Nursing satisfaction was also higher in the intervention group (P < 0.05).These findings demonstrate that comprehensive high-quality nursing has a significant improvement in both pulmonary and neurological function among patients with cerebral stroke complicated with lung infection.
