Functional properties of diamond ceramics for armor purposes obtained from clad and multicomponent powders
Abstract
The paper demonstrates the structural advantages of reactionsintered ceramics with diamond filler obtained from threecomponent mechanical mixtures of carbon-clad powders, which allows achieving high functional characteristics of materials on experimental samples for potential use as armor elements: density 3.37 g/cm3, longitudinal sound velocity 15100 m/s, elastic modulus E = 750 GPa, Poisson's ratio μ = 0.084. Also, on experimental samples it was determined that the elastic modulus of the composite ceramic material obtained by siliciding a porous matrix containing diamond and silicon carbide depends almost linearly on the ratio of the diamond and silicon carbide phases in the initial batch powder mixture.
