Research and development of the composition of the batch for obtaining cordieritemullite ceramics
Abstract
The possibility of producing a cordieritemullite composite ceramic material by semi-dry pressing of a batch based on talc, mullite, electrocorundum and silica sol with subsequent sintering is demonstrated. The composition, quantity and concentration of the binder for producing the press powder, and the process parameters for pressing ceramic blanks are determined. It has been established that the optimum firing temperature, ensuring completeness of the reactions of interaction between the components and the formation of the maximum amount of cordierite and secondary mullite, is 1350 °C. The resulting ceramics have a near-zero shrinkage during sintering (< 0.1 %), low TCLE (18·10‒7‒38·10‒7 K‒1) in the range of 20‒1000 °C and high heat resistance (>100 cycles of 1000 °C ‒ water).
