Abstract

The EMPUSA project has enabled the multi-criteria assessment (agronomic, economic and environmental sustainability) of the Durette pilot farm set up in the Vaucluse (southern France) since 2013. In addition to the IFT index (related to pesticide use), numerous indicators have been used since 2016 to characterise the performance of the agroforestry system planted, combining fruit trees and diversified vegetables. The monitoring shows an effective reduction in IFTs in fruit trees and market gardening, the primary objective of the Ecophyto programme, accompanied by variable reductions in yields depending on the crops concerned. The honourable economic result is made possible by managing the diversity of crops as part of a working group. Careful monitoring of natural pest control also shows that agroforestry has a positive intermittent effect.
