Abstract

Over a 6-year period, the SYDRA project designed, tested and assessed five agro-ecological cider-apple growing systems in Normandy. Three are young orchards resulting from design workshops carried out at the start of the project, and two are the result of redesigns based on mature orchards. Each system has been designed and adapted to the local constraints using complex combinations of innovative levers. These levers have contributed to a reduction of more than 80 % of the Treatment Frequency Indicator (TFI) excluding biocontrol, compared with a 2013 reference for the cider-apple sector. For adult orchards, close technical monitoring over a significant number of years has enabled us to set up systems that adequately control bio-aggressors and produce decent yields. In young orchards, pest control is currently satisfactory in conditions of low pressure, but agronomic and economic performances will need to be confirmed over the next few years.
