Oops, I learned music: the power of incidental learning
Abstract
This work focuses on the research exploring incidental learning within the realm of music. This chapter presents research that investigated humans’ ability to capture the relationship between two events in the environment, aiming to investigate whether or not this human ability can be applied to skills normally considered hard to acquire, such as sight-reading and pitch discrimination. The potential use of incidental learning applied to sight-reading and pitch identification skills is discussed and some experimental works are presented. Overall, this work offers fresh experimental insights into leveraging incidental learning techniques to acquire music information.
