The Role of Regional Financial Mechanisms in the International Monetary System
Abstract
Regional Financing Arrangements (RFAs) constitute an integral layer of the Global Financial Safety Net (GFSN) on the regional level. They play a key role in providing regional expertise, crisis response mechanisms and financial resources tailored to the specific needs of member states. Through a decade of cooperation, RFAs have enhanced the effectiveness of the GFSN, contributing to the prevention and management of crises, the mitigation of external shocks, and the preservation of confidence in the global economy. In collaboration with the IMF, RFAs continue to contribute to a more resilient international financial architecture by bridging financing gaps, facilitating economic recovery, and implementing the necessary reforms, particularly for vulnerable economies.
