Mediating Role of Thought Control Ability in the Relationship Between Emotion Regulation Difficulty and Intolerance of Uncertainty
Abstract
In this research, the mediating role of thought control ability in the relationship between difficulty with emotion regulation and intolerance of uncertainty was investigated. The research used the correlational model. The research group included 505 participants, comprising 395 women (78.2%) and 110 men (21.8%), with ages varying from 18 to 40 years (x̄: 20.9, sd: 2.62). Measurement tools in the research included the Thought Control Ability Questionnaire (TCAQ-8), Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale (IUS-12), Difficulty in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS-16) and a Personal Information Form. Data were analyzed using SPSS and Jamovi programs. The research used descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis and GLM mediation analysis. When the research findings are examined, for DERS-16 there was a significant positive correlation with IUS-12 and a significant negative correlation with TCAQ-8. There was a significant negative correlation identified between IUS-12 and TCAQ-8. In the relationship between difficulty with emotion regulation and intolerance of uncertainty, thought control ability was identified to have a mediating role.
