Abstract

In 1898, they constituted in Antequera (Malaga) the village’s first irrigation community: the Comunidad de Regantes del Río Guadalhorce. The goal of this research is to study the irrigators’ conflicts for accessing water; to identify the main landowners, pointing out postwar period in the community’s life. Our research starts in 1898 and extends up to the 1950s, the period covered by the documents studied: the community’s minutes, as well as the minutes of the irrigation juries, and the irrigators’ census. We have carried out a research of economic and social history, in order to establish the use of such communities in solving irrigation conflicts in regions conditioned by water scarcity.
