Abstract

The paper analyses the policies and initiatives related to water supply, sanitation and social control in the contemporary city of Cordoba (Spain) up to the first third of the 20th century. Such a study reveals the complexity of the interactions between urban development, the early design of water-related public services and municipal initiatives in the face of social marginalisation. This research provides a basis for understanding the historical processes that have shaped the urban and social landscape, as well as offering considerations that facilitate understanding the scope and limits of contemporary urban planning and management.
