Hacia la problematización de un estudio policial
Abstract
This paper problematizes an ethnographic engagement with a local policing apparatus, followed by a phenomenological critique. The initial critique emphasizes the need to analyze the embodiment of neighborhood insecurity to understand how a particular mode of convivencia –defined as insecuritary– is subjectively experienced. The argument developed in this work centers on the notion of problem of convivencia as a key unit of meaning that underpins and legitimizes this form of social phenomena (insecuritary convivencia). Through this meaning-making process, a shift occurs: from a socially grounded understanding of security to one that targets and punishes vulnerable populations. To grasp how this unit of meaning is sustained at the level of experience, the analysis turns to a notion of subjectivity informed by phenomenological materialism. It is argued that interrogating the unconscious foundations of phenomena such as insecuritary convivencia is crucial to produce critical knowledge.
