Abstract

The NSF NHERI Network Coordination Office Education and Community Outreach hosted the eighth annual NHERI Summer Institute for Early Career Faculty at the University of Texas at San Antonio's Downtown Campus from June 11 to 13, 2025. The Summer Institute aims to 1) build a natural hazards research community; 2) educate attendees about NHERI resources; and 3) support early career faculty in writing well-informed NSF proposals to mitigate the impact of natural hazards on infrastructure and communities. As in years past, NHERI welcomed early-career researchers to work with mentors across NHERI and NSF as they developed natural hazards proposal ideas within collaborative groups. Researchers explored NHERI resources, NSF proposal guidelines, grand challenges, K-12 broader impacts, and pathways to transferring research into practice. The flagship event presentations are available for download through DataDepot.
