Alignment of competency tests in critical appraisal with the 'Appraise and Interpret' domain of evidence based practice for health professionals
Abstract
The purpose of this review is to compare and contrast the content of instruments used to evaluate critical appraisal skills in healthcare curricula, with the core competencies in critical appraisal as determined by expert consensus in a Delphi survey conducted by Albarquoni et al in 2018. If the Instruments are not fully aligned with the core competencies, this should be addressed in future research, because assessment drives learning. A secondary aim is to examine the feasibility of existing assessment tools, by documenting the average time it takes for each of the assessments to be completed and graded. Time for assessment is an important consideration for those involved in teaching evidence based practice.
