Cracking the DMC Code: A Multivariate Exploration of Cognitive Control Representations
Abstract
Cognitive control is the ability to flexibly regulate our behavior. Cognitive control neural dynamics have been extensively explored, but so far a clear understanding is still lacking. This might be due to the use of mainly univariate analytical approaches, which have revealed control processes only. However, to be implemented, cognitive control relies on neural representations, which can be unveiled using multivariate analytical approaches. In the present project, we explored cognitive control representations using two multivariate pattern analyses (MVPA) to distinguish between the two control modes postulated by the Dual-mechanism of control model (DMC), proactive and reactive control.
