Integrating Oral Health into Diabetes Care: A Scoping Review of Implementation Models, Outcomes, and Barriers/ Facilitators
Abstract
This project is a scoping review conducted in accordance with the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology and reported using the PRISMA-ScR guidelines. The review aims to systematically map existing models for integrating oral health into diabetes care, particularly within primary care settings and involving non-dental healthcare professionals. It will synthesise evidence on implementation approaches, reported clinical and service-level outcomes, and key facilitators and barriers to integration. The review will also identify evidence gaps and contextual factors relevant to low- and middle-income settings, with the intention of informing feasible and sustainable integrated care strategies.
