Unveiling Trade-offs: Organic Production and Greenhouse Gas Emissions in Brazil
Abstract
This repository supports a study examining the environmental trade-offs associated with the expansion of organic farming in Brazil. The project combines municipality-level panel data with spatial and econometric methods to assess how changes in the share of organic farms relates to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from agriculture and land use and land-use change (LULUC). The analysis integrates administrative agricultural data, emissions inventories, and geospatial information, and applies generalized synthetic control method to estimate GHG trajectories over time. The files include cleaned datasets, replication scripts, and code used to generate all figures and tables in the study, including maps of emissions variation and robustness checks across regions and alternative treatment definitions. All data processing and analysis steps are fully documented to ensure transparency and reproducibility.
