Conceptual Framework for the Knower Centred Model of Consciousness (KCM)
Abstract
The Knower Centred Model of Consciousness (KCM), developed by Nabaghan Ojha, is a subject-first framework that treats the knower as the necessary condition under which any content or process appears. KCM formalizes experience through the K–N–C triad: Knower, Knowing, and Known or Content. The framework distinguishes the presence of a subject from the neural, informational, physical, and computational structures associated with experiential content. It asks a foundational question that structure-first theories leave unresolved: for whom does any organization, integration, or processing become present as experience? KCM engages comparatively with Advaita Vedānta, phenomenology, panpsychism, and observer-dependent interpretations of physics, but it is not a restatement of or dependent upon any of these positions. Version 2.0 corrects the original triadic notation, refines several foundational claims, strengthens KCM’s distinction from neighbouring traditions, and aligns the founding paper with the subsequent KCM research programme.
