Abstract

Acute Achilles tendon rupture is a common musculoskeletal injury that can result in severe disability, it is common in older age, active lifestyles and male sex with increasing incidence rates (Myhrvold et al., 2022). Following reading of the subject their is no consensus as to what protocol to follow during the conservative management of Achilles tendon ruptures. They are very much consultant led and differ between organisations. There also appears to be a void in the literature as to how researchers document conservative protocols. Papers compare the difference between surgical and conservative management outcomes but don’t clearly transcribe what each conservative method includes. Therefore, it would be prudent to scope out the information that has been previously reported highlighting similarities and differences plus any gaps that need to be filled before solid conclusions can be made.
